The Opportunity

An identified gap in the Te Whai Hua – Kia Ora! | Sorted in Schools programme was the provision of achievement standard learning and assessment resources for ākonga in Māori-medium education. Consultation with kura, kaiako, and whānau highlighted a preference for developing integrated achievement standard resources drawn from core wāhanga ako that support ākonga to gain sufficient NCEA credits. These resources also needed to accurately reflect the idea of financial wellbeing in both broader Māori and Māori-medium education contexts.

Our Response

Over several years, Haemata has supported Te Ara Ahunga Ora | Retirement Commission through reviews, translation, and resource development to curate a suite of materials that supports kura and kaiako in the delivery of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
More recently, Haemata developed Te Tātai Ahumoni, a resource that collates activities from Te Whai Hua – Kia Ora! | Sorted in Schools that support the teaching and learning of Pāngarau concepts at Tūārere 3 and Tūārere 4 of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. It is designed for use with mokopuna in years 9–10 and help mokopuna to build strong financial literacy skills and to apply pāngarau concepts in real-life financial contexts.

The Outcome

These resources provide kaiako with practical, ready-to-use materials that support and enhance their broader pāngarau teaching programmes. In doing so, they make the teaching of financial literacy and wellbeing more accessible to mokopuna who may not otherwise be exposed to these concepts, helping to support improved life outcomes.
